Keychron G3 vs G4 vs G5: Which Gaming Mouse Should You Buy?

For the longest time, I liked Keychron keyboards more than their gaming mice.
I used the G2, the M3, and the M3 Mini before this launch, and while they were all solid, none of them ever fully replaced my main mouse. They were good… just not quite perfect.
That changed with the new G Series lineup. After spending time with the Keychron G3, G4, and G5, I honestly think Keychron has finally entered the top-tier gaming mouse conversation. And the crazy part is they’re doing it without the insane $130–$170 price tags we’ve gotten used to in the gaming mouse world.
All three mice use the PixArt 3950 sensor, support up to 8K polling, use snappy Huano micro switches, and work with Keychron’s browser-based launcher software for adjusting DPI, polling rate, button mapping, and profiles. These genuinely feel like enthusiast-level gaming mice built for different types of players.
And that’s the important part: None of these mice are “better” than the others.
They’re designed for different grip styles, preferences, and playstyles.
So instead of asking which one is objectively best, the better question is:

Keychron G3 — The One That Surprised Me Most
The G3 ended up becoming my personal favorite of the entire lineup. Specifically the Frosted Gray version.
Something about the frosted translucent shell reminds me of the original Game Boy Color aesthetic, and paired with the shape, it immediately stood out from almost every other gaming mouse I’ve used recently.
But the real reason I love the G3 is the shape.
The raised back hump gives your hand more support and creates a very locked-in feeling while aiming. Combined with the slightly wider body and subtle side curves, it becomes incredibly easy to stabilize your grip without squeezing too hard.
I personally use a hybrid 1-3-1 grip style, and the G3 fits that grip better than almost anything I’ve tried lately.
Instead of feeling overly flat or aggressively narrow, the G3 feels balanced. Stable. Controlled.
At only 44 grams, it still feels extremely lightweight, but unlike some ultra-light mice, it doesn’t feel fragile or overly floaty in game.
The texture also helps a lot. Both versions of the G3 have a textured finish that gives you extra grip without feeling rough or cheap.
Who the G3 Is Best For
The G3 makes the most sense for players who:
Prefer claw or hybrid grips
Want more palm support
Like slightly wider mice
Want a locked-in aiming feel
Play competitive FPS games regularly
Keychron G4 — The Stylish All-Rounder
The first thing you notice is the design.
The Famicom-inspired colorway gives it a unique personality that stands out immediately from the endless sea of black gaming mice. It feels playful without looking cheap, and honestly, it’s one of the coolest looking mice Keychron has made.
But the shape is what makes it interesting.
Compared to the G3, the G4 has:
A flatter profile
A slightly smaller overall feel
A mid hump instead of a raised rear hump
A more neutral hand position
At 55 grams, it’s still lightweight, but compared to the G3 and G5 it feels a little more grounded and stable on the mousepad.
The coating is also excellent.
Instead of a textured shell, the G4 uses a smooth premium coating that still manages to stay grippy during gameplay. It feels refined and premium in the hand while still maintaining enough grip for competitive play.
Who the G4 Is Best For
The G4 is probably the best fit for people who:
Like flatter mouse shapes
Care about aesthetics
Want a versatile gaming mouse for multiple genres
Don’t necessarily want the ultra-aggressive enthusiast feel of some lightweight mice
This is the mouse I’d recommend to someone who wants a high-end gaming mouse experience without diving fully into the ultra-lightweight enthusiast rabbit hole.
Keychron G5 — The Lightweight Enthusiast Pick
At only 43 grams, it’s incredibly lightweight, but the shape is what really changes the experience.
Unlike the G3, the G5 tapers inward toward the center and sides.
The carbon fiber-inspired details and textured shell pattern also give it a much more technical, performance-focused appearance compared to the cleaner aesthetic of the G4.
Despite the low weight, the build quality still feels solid, which is something lightweight mice often struggle with.
And like the G3, the G5 also includes extra skates and mouse dots in the box, which is a nice bonus for long-term use.
Who the G5 Is Best For
The G5 makes the most sense for players who:
Want the lightest feeling possible
All grip styles
Play fast-paced FPS games competitively
Love enthusiast gaming gear
Want maximum responsiveness and freedom of movement
If you’re the type of player constantly chasing faster reactions, cleaner flicks, and lighter setups, the G5 will probably appeal to you immediately.
The Browser Software Is Actually Great
One thing I didn’t expect to care about as much as I do is Keychron’s browser-based launcher software.
Instead of downloading another massive gaming peripheral application that constantly runs in the background, Keychron lets you configure settings directly through the browser.
Changing:
DPI
Polling rate
Profiles
Button mappings
is all extremely straightforward.
And honestly, it just feels cleaner and less intrusive than a lot of traditional gaming peripheral software.
What Actually Matters in Gaming Mice Now
A few years ago, gaming mice were heavily separated by raw performance.
Today, that gap is much smaller.
When you’re dealing with:
PixArt 3950 sensors
8K polling
high-end switches
lightweight designs
the conversation changes.
At this level, the biggest difference isn’t raw specs anymore.
It’s:
shape
weight
texture
grip compatibility
comfort
aiming feel
That’s why the G3, G4, and G5 all make sense. They aren’t trying to be the exact same mouse.
Each one targets a different type of player.
Final Thoughts
I genuinely didn’t expect this launch to change my opinion on Keychron gaming mice as much as it did. The older mice were solid. These feel fully realized.
The G3 became my personal favorite because the wider shape and raised rear hump fit my grip style perfectly, but I can completely understand why someone else would prefer the flatter versatility of the G4 or the ultra-light aggressive feel of the G5.
And that’s really the biggest compliment I can give this lineup:
There isn’t one obvious “winner.”
